The new Chemical and Biomedical Engineering building on the main campus of The Pennsylvania State University occupies the site of the former Fenske Laboratory. Each floor of the building houses a mixture of offices and laboratories, enabling students and faculty to collaborate within a condensed neighborhood. The CEBME building is a seven-story, steel-framed structure utilizing a mixture of braced-frames and moment-resisting rigid frames to resist lateral loads. Additionally, the structure was designed to resist vibration so that the specialized equipment in each laboratory will not be affected by movement within the building. The design team is seeking LEED certification for the project.
